Carbon Savings of Remote Assessment
Our remote medical assessment uses online questionnaire followed up by a video call from doctor to client. Though not absolutely carbon free, the carbon usage per assessment is considered to approximate to zero and so the carbon saving per assessment can reasonably be described was being of the order of 10kg based on 5 years of our ‘precovid’ data of clients travelling to our site by car. Our audit data shows no detriment by certification outcome of remote assessment.
Mitigating in person assessment
A mature tree absorbs about 25 kg carbon per annum; assessment are carried out every second year. Thus each ‘in person’ assessment would require the planting of 25/(0.5 x 10) = one fifth of a tree. The number of “Offshore Travellers” in 2021 was 36,946 (1)
Accordingly, to meet net zero targets the offshore industry in UK would need to plant 26,946/5 = 5,389 trees per annum, occupying between 10 and 50 Acres if all assessments were all carried out in person.
